2. Data processing in the app

ChoirXML reads printed choral scores from PDFs, images and camera scans, recognises notes and lyrics, and creates editable results for MusicXML export. Selected content may include personal information such as names, dedications or handwritten annotations.

This content is processed locally on your iPad. The app does not transmit it to us or to a recognition or AI service. Music and text recognition run on the device; no user account is required. ChoirXML contains no advertising, proprietary analytics or tracking services, or built-in cloud synchronisation. Using these app features does not give us access to your files.

3. Camera, photos and files

The camera is used only when you start scanning sheet music and requires permission through iPadOS. You can change this permission in system settings. Without camera permission, you can still import files and selected photos.

The photo picker gives ChoirXML access only to the images you select. File import opens the PDF or image files you choose. If a source is stored in iCloud Drive, iCloud Photos or with another provider, the operating system may download it from that service. That provider’s terms and privacy settings apply to this transfer.

4. Storage and deletion on your iPad

ChoirXML stores imported pages as images, together with song titles, recognised notes, lyrics, corrections and modification timestamps, in the app’s local Documents folder. This data remains until you delete the song or the app. Offloading the app in iPadOS may retain its documents.

Depending on your system settings, app documents may be included in iCloud or computer backups. The app does not explicitly exclude these documents from backups. Deleting a song or the app does not automatically delete backups, source files or exported files stored elsewhere. You manage those copies with the relevant provider or on your computer.

5. Export and other services

You choose where to save a MusicXML export. If you share files through the Files app or other system features, the selected files may be transferred to other apps, cloud providers or recipients. They may include lyrics and information from the original score. ChoirXML does not operate a server for this content.

Apple’s data processing applies to App Store downloads, purchases and system diagnostics you may choose to share. ChoirXML does not include its own crash reporting or usage analytics SDK.

6. This website and Cloudflare

These notices apply to the ChoirXML pages at pauseink.app/choirxml/. The website is delivered through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes information including your IP address, timestamp, requested address, browser and HTTP request data to deliver and protect the website. Recipients include Cloudflare and its subprocessors.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is providing a secure, reliably accessible website. Connection data is technically necessary; the website cannot be delivered without it.

Processing outside the EU or EEA, particularly in the United States, is possible. Cloudflare describes the safeguards it provides, including EU standard contractual clauses, in its Data Processing Addendum. Further information is available in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

The supplied ChoirXML pages use no advertising or analytics tools, externally loaded fonts, or cookies or local storage entries of their own. Depending on the Cloudflare security features enabled, technically necessary security cookies may be used; Cloudflare explains them in its cookie documentation.

7. Language selection

The language-neutral entry links select German or English based on your browser language. Detection happens in your browser without storing the choice. Each page lets you switch to its counterpart in the other language. Direct language links also work without JavaScript.

8. Email support

If you write to support@pauseink.app, we process your sender address, message and any attachments to answer your enquiry. Messages are delivered through Cloudflare Email Routing and the email mailbox provider in use. These service providers process the data required for transmission, storage and delivery. Please send only files needed for your enquiry and remove unnecessary personal information from scores or screenshots.

The legal basis for contractual enquiries is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; for other enquiries it is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on our legitimate interest in handling your request. Contacting us is voluntary; we cannot reply without a means of contacting you.

9. Retention

You control the retention of your local app documents as described above. Support messages are deleted once the enquiry is resolved and the data is no longer needed for necessary evidence or statutory retention duties. Where a statutory duty requires further retention, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.

Technical connection and security data is processed for as long as needed to deliver the website, maintain security and investigate security incidents. Specific logging and deletion periods depend on the hosting or email service in use and its configuration.

10. Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Please use the contact details above.

Right to object: You may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR).

You may also complain to a supervisory authority, particularly in the country of your habitual residence, place of work or the alleged infringement. For the provider in North Rhine-Westphalia, one contact is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW). We do not use profiling or automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

These notices will be updated when app features or the data processing of the website and its service providers change.
